Go Make Some Tacos!

After watching Turbo, the movie about a snail that could race with super cars, I got really excited about Tacos (the main character that adopted Turbo sells Tacos with his brother). I vividly remember Jodi made it once for me to try back in Perth but I seriously can't remember what's in there.
So I googled up for some taco recipes and mix-and-match them to make this super easy beef tacos for dinner!

For the Salsa, I pretty much followed Jamie Oliver's super simple recipe. What you need:
One large or two small tomatoes roughly chopped, sliced one whole onion, chopped coriander, 1/2 lemon juice.

What to do:
1) Put all ingredients into a bowl.
2) Squeeze the lemon juice onto the ingredients (I added more of the lemon juice for an extra kick).
3) Mix everything up and you are done! You can keep it cool in the fridge for a few hours if you want to.

For the Guacamole, I choose the simplest recipe with minimal use of ingredients. This particular method is the fastest one where you can make with the simplest cutlery available! So what you need are:
One large avocado, juice for quarter of a lemon, garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste

What to do:
1) On a chopping board, cut the avocado into cubes.
2) Mash the avocado with a fork (for bigger portion you may use a food processor) until the way you prefer it to me. Mine was still a little bit chunky but you can go on and make it smoother. Some even add cream but I went for the healthier version. :p
3) Now add in the garlic powder (oh I love the taste of it) and salt and paper to taste. Squeeze the lemon juice onto the mash avocado. Stir well and you are done! Chill in the fridge if you want to!

For the beef filling, what you need are:
Some chopped red onions, chopped garlic, chopped green capsicum, minced beef, a small can of tomato puree, ground cumin, paprika, salt and pepper to taste

What to do:
1) Simmer the garlic and onions in a pan.

2) Until they turn a little brownish, add in the capsicum.
3) Fry until they turn a little soft, then add in the beef.
4) Add in enough salt, pepper, paprika and ground cumin to taste. Stir them up.
5) As the beef cooked, add in the tomato puree.
6) Stir them all up and cover lit to let it boil for about 15 minutes or until the gravy is reduced.
7) Transfer into a bowl or plate once it's cooked.:)

As for the Taco shells, you can easily find them in the supermarket, normally at the same isle as the breads. All you need to do is just heat them up a little bit in an oven.

Once everything is done, it's dinner time! :D
Arranged the beef, Guacamole, Salsa then some chopped lettuce and some shredded cheese (I found mine that is specifically for Taco), topped with some chopped spring onion and you are done!
Don't get greedy or it will make the taco overloaded and messy!!!
I know the number of ingredients needed to make this whole recipe sounds so complicated and fussy, but the reality is, they are all super easy to make. You spend like five minutes each to make the Salsa and Guacamole and just slightly longer time to cook the beef~!
The best thing is, it turned out to be very yummy! The beef was flavourful and juicy while the Salsa gives it a little sour and refreshing kick while the lettuce just sort of balance up the nutrition department of the dish. And I know beef aren't that healthy but the dish really makes a good light dinner, we didn't feel too full eating like 6 tacos each! LOL! Deardo actually suggested the next time we should use minced pork in stead.

Just in case, if you are wondering why isn't there Guacamole in my tacos? That's because my avocado wasn't ripe enough yet when I made this but I manage to make it days after to go with another home-cooked dinner.
Char Siew Chicken with Sesame Seeds Served with Nando's Inspired Spinach, Fluffy Scrambled Eggs with Cheese and a Scoop of Chunky Guacamole.
I love the Guacamole and because it is so easy to make, I think I'm going to make it quite often just to go with the simplest thing like crackers or bread! :)

So are you ready to make some tacos too??? *wink~*

Catching Fire/RoboCop/The Journey (and I need more movies)

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Director: Francis Lawrence
Cast: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth
Synopsis: Here's my very unimpressive review on The Hunger Games and this is a sequel to the widely successful movie. With Katniss and Peeta winning the games, they have inspired rebellions in the district and that angers Snow, who then announced for a special game where previous winners are forced to take part in.
The Thumb-Up(s): Compared to the previous movie,The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has obviously improved in terms of 'complicating' the storyline with deeper and richer story, better actions and giving more opportunities for great acting to its actors, which thankfully the likes of the awesome Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson nailed it.
The Thumb-Down(s): The movie made me go wow~ with the unique story in the first installment so for the second one, it didn't manage to surprise me that much.
The Verdict: A better planned and arranged sequel that is worth a watch.
3.5 out of 5

RoboCop
Director: Jose Padilha
Cast: Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson
Synopsis: A remake of the 1987's film with the same name, the movie talks about policeman Alex who is heavily injured and was taken by OmniCorp to make into RoboCop, a robot with a human brain to fight crimes in the city
The Thumb-Up(s): ME SUPER LOVE THE BLACK ROBOCOP SUIT!!!!!
The Thumb-Down(s): Storyline was way too predictable, the actions were way too little and there were literally zero climax or perhaps too short a climax in the movie.
The Verdict: Don't waste your time, really.

一路有你 The Journey
Director: 青元
Cast: 尤凤音、李世平、Ben Pfeiffer
The Verdict: 虽然它有它的缺点,但还是一部蛮值得一看的电影。不管你是做人家儿女的、还是做人家爸妈的,这电影会让你学习到不少人生道理。

Our Lovely Wedding in Taiping Part 1

*Updated with link to photos!

Since we are done with Cloudy with a Chance of Wedding Bells a.k.a our wedding in KL, it's time to finally have a look at our wedding in Taiping!
We kick-started the day with the morning session and like all you brides out there, I had to be up as early as 5ish in the morning. Juno from Juno's Perfection Studio was my make-up artist and based on my short dress and the birdcage net (that were all tailor-made), I've requested for a vintage hair and make-up and thank god he really nailed it! :)
Love how the vintage look gives me a totally different style that I've never seen myself with!
Obviously the Loo brothers are very talented in their own ways! Juno's brother, Isaac was our photographer and based on his young age, we were extremely surprised and impressed with his work! I personally love how creative his shots are!!!

We kept our morning session very simple too. I had no 'ji muis' except for my two real 'ji mius' and a cousin sister to help out. All we wanted Deardo to do was to read out some love messages to me entirely in Teochew! Oh yes, by the way, he had some Heng Dais but I guess they didn't need to help him much! :p
Deardo arrived at my house and found a surprise obstacle in my crazy aunties who just asked him random questions about me! LOL!
That's our Teochew script!
One for the album!
Tea session was quite a short one, with priority given to those who weren't there at our wedding in KL.
Tea for one of the most important persons, Ah Ma! :)
Once again, I couldn't help but praise Isaac for his capabilities in capturing some really nice photos and surely, they are very unforgettable moments at our wedding!
These are truly precious set of photos of my two Ah Mas smiling/laughing their heart out! Some said it is very rare to see them smile/laugh like this!
So we were taking our family photo and Isaac asked Papo and Mamo when was the last time they kissed???
Our crazy family photo!!!
Oh man, I tell you, that was the first and probably the only time I've seen them kiss in my entire life!!! Really owe this to Isaac man!!! Hahaha...
More crazy photos with the families and Heng Dais! :)

After the morning session at my place, we went off to the church to our supposedly small R.O.M but turned real church wedding! LOL! Kinda defeated the purpose of me making a short dress but then again, I thought well let's just be a different bride who had her church wedding in a short dress! I mean, nothing wrong with that too, right? In fact, I think it was kinda cool idea! *wink~*
Insanely beautiful photo of Papo walking me down the aisle.
I think we were reading our vows here...
Rings-exchanged! Deal is done!
That church wedding officially made us a married couple, like legally! :D

We did some photoshoot in town too before heading back to Deardo's place but I shall share that with you guys in another post. Here are some other snapshots at Deardo's place, before we wrapped up the first half of our wedding day in Taiping.
Yum Cha???
One cute family photo too! :)
More to come in the next post! See the rest of the photos here.

Missy June's B'Day Dinner @ Pantrie, Oasis Square

The colleagues and I celebrated June's birthday last month at Pantrie, Oasis Square. Yeah, I guess we really love that place since we have been there for a few times together so far!
Simple decor but comfy ambiance.
This time we tried Pantrie, only a few shops next to Epiphany.Definitely a humble-looking restaurant with minimal over-the-top deco, the restaurant also offer not-too-extensive menu but has enough of choices, which has a mixture of Western and Japanese dishes, with some odd Asian fusion dishes as well.
We had a look at the menu and decided to first order some starters...
Chicken Wings with Spicy Dip, RM 14.
Potato, Cheese and bacon Croquette, RM 14.
The Chicken Wings with Spicy Dip although simple, were really awesome. I personally love the very unique-tasting dip! The Potato, Cheese and Bacon Croquette were a bit of a let down though.
And here comes the main!!!
Spaghetti Aglio Olio Tossed with Prawns, RM22.
Spaghetti with Mixed Mushrooms, RM20.
Spaghetti Tossed with Spicy Duck, RM22.
Crispy Battered Pallock with Chips, RM18.
Chicken Chop with Herb Sauce, RM18 with extra order of Sauteed Vegetables, RM5.
I had the Spaghetti Aglio Olio Tossed with Prawns and it was quite decent. Balance amount of garlic and chili and fresh prawns made the dish quite worth the price. I tried a few other dishes from the rest and my conclusion is they serve better pastas than other dishes! My personal favourite has to be the yummy Spaghetti Tossed with Spicy Duck which comes with chili padi and tender duck meat! That and my Aglio Olio were the top scorer that night, that's for sure!
Lea ordered an extra side of Sauteed Vegetables to go with her Chicken Chop, which was pretty nice! :) The Crispy Battered Pallock with Chips was a little weird to us probably because of the texture of the batter which makes it looks and tastes like Goreng Pisang instead of Fish & Chips. The fish was also a bit too hard and dry to our liking.
Pictures of us to proof that we were there!
The menu has more dishes that sound good but at a higher price which we didn't order such as Wagyu Rib-Eye, Pan Seared Cod which may be nice to try one day.
Overall, Pantrie has very nice pastas while you have to choose carefully on their other mains. The Chicken Wings are definitely a must try! Personally, I think it's a great option compared to those that are too commercialised. Without tax and service charges (we got discount for this), we ended up paying RM146.50 for the dinner and it was quite affordable for six persons!

Like our usual ritual, we went next door to Epiphany for coffee and cakes!
It was a failed surprise but June pretended that she was surprised anywayz...:p
Say hi to the gang!!! :D
Happy Birthday to June, once again (a month later, LOL)!!!

To the rest of you, HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY YAW!!! :D
