Best Sarawak Laksa in Town @ 7th Mile Kitchen, Kelana Jaya

Read about 7th Mile Kitchen from KY's blog and headed to the restaurant quite right away simply because both Deardo and I are fans of Sarawak Laksa and Kolo Mee.
We were at the rather clean and simple restaurant located underneath an apartment quite early on a Saturday morning but already there were quite some crowd there. Looks promising!
Being adventurous, I ordered all three famous Sarawakian dishes - Sarawak Laksa, Kolo Mee and Tomota Kuey Teow to try.
Sarawak Laksa (Large), RM6.
Kolo Mee (Large), RM5.50.
Tomato Kuey Teow (Small), RM5.
While visually not very interesting-looking, the Sarawak Laksa turned out to be really good! Thick broth where you can taste all the herbs used in it, with the usual ingredients - prawns, chicken and fried eggs strips. Only thing I didn't like was the bihun being the normal ones and not the slightly thicker ones. It was nonetheless the best Sarawak Laksa we've had in KL so far! :) The Kolo Mee was also pretty satisfying with the noodles being very springy and moist with a touch of pork oil, although I can't say the Char Siew and minced pork were any outstanding. As for the Tomato Kuey Teow, let's just say we are not really used to the taste of it. It wasn't bad, just not our favourite.
3-Layer Tea, RM2.80.
Love thier 3-layer tea a lot too (although when it came it was only 2-layer tea), not too sweet, yet has the nice fragrant from the Gula Melaka.
We paid RM19.30 for the sumptuous breakfast, which was pretty reasonable. Personally love the Sarawak Laksa and Kolo Mee a lot and will surely be back whenever I need my Sarawakian food fix~!

Yummy Meatloaf Recipe

Ever since I become pregnant, one of my favourite meat are anything minced, probably because it's easy-chewing food for toddler? LOL. So when I saw Shaolintiger shared his very simple meatloaf recipe, I was eager to make it too. I also refer to this recipe as it has some vegetables to balance up the dish, so I sort of modify both recipes and came up with this version of meatloaf recipe myself.

What you need:
About 650g minced beef and pork (50/50) (I made sure my pork are with some fats)
4-5 Italian sausages, cut into slices
1 chopped large onion
Chopped 2-3 cloves of garlic
1 chopped carrot
Some chopped spring/green onion
1 cup bread crumbs
Enough amount of butter
2 eggs, beaten
Few drops of Worcestershire Sauce
Enough Salt and ground black pepper to taste
2/3 cup of ketchup
4 tbsp of mustard
1 tbsp of brown sugar

What to do:
1) In a pan, melt some butter.
2) Dump the garlic, onions and carrot and cook them till soft.
3) Now add in the spring onion and continue stirring.
4) Add in enough salt and pepper to taste. Turn of the fire and set aside.
5) Now in a large bowl, combine all the meat, sausages, eggs, bead crumb and the vegetables mixture. Add in few drops of Worcestershire Sauce and if you think you need to, more salt and pepper.
6) With your clean hand, mix the mixture evenly.
7) Butter a 9x13 inch baking dish or line the dish with aluminium foil then butter the foil. Then place the mixture evenly into the dish, making sure they are compact. It should fill up the dish just nice.
8) Now in a small bowl, combine the ketchup, mustard and brown sugar. Just stir them up.
9) Spread the sauce over the top of the meat mixture.
10) Send the dish into a pre-heated oven at 175c for about 70 minutes, non-fan.
11) Remove the dish from the oven and that's it. You're done!

Cut the meatloaf into slices and serve them with your favourite side dishes!
We had ours with some boiled broccoli and garlic prawn Quinoa for a hearty dinner. Pretty yummy I must say, but that was not the best!
We kept the leftover and I made toasted sandwich with the meatloaf for breakfast the next day, plus a slice of cheese and oh man, so yummy it feels like breakfast in heaven!!! I can assure you it was too-many-times tastier than McD breakfast, hands down!!!

Here are some things to note from my experience:
1) Adding the Italian sausage makes a little difference in terms of texture cos they are a little chewy.
2) Because of the vegetables, there are water at the bottom of the dish but it's ok, especially if you keep them overnight it will dry off eventually.
3) Both recipes call for 60 minutes in the oven but mine wasn't cooked in the middle, so I chucked the dish back to the oven for another 10 minutes.

I won't say its super simple to make, but whenever I think of that super delicious sandwich, I'm tempted to make this again!

Awesome Pork Dishes @ OldSchool, The School Jaya One

We were at Jaya One hunting for dinner the other night when we excitedly found OldSchool actually opened for business already! I've heard a lot about the shop from Yve Vonn and have been wanting to give the restaurant a try!
The restaurant has two main highlights - Malaysian school theme and a porky theme as their menu features mainly dishes with pork.
The entire design of the restaurant is lovely, reminding you of your school classroom and canteen! Cute mural paintings, old school snacks that brings you down the memory lane all over again and the menu that comes in a form of exercise book, fully hand-written too! If I were them, I would be giving out free pre-meal snacks like 'Ah Tap Chee' biscuits or something like that!
Mind you, even their service staff dress-up in not-so-Malaysian school uniforms and the manager was in Principal suit! So damn cool lor!!!
Range of food on the menu looks very complete! From snacks, sandwiches, Western dishes up till some really homey Malaysian dishes like Nasi Lemak, Prawn Noodle and Pork Noodles Soup. Of course you would expect pork in almost all dishes, including the Nasi Lemak!
Chinese Tea, RM2.
Cotton-soft Char Siew Bao, RM6.90.
We had the Cotton-Soft Char Siew Bao as a starter which was quite decent, although really not the best Char Siew Bao I've tried. But the less-fat meat makes it a little homey, like your mum made it with love cos she wants you to be healthier. LOL.
Roasted Pork Curry Laksa, RM14.90.
OldSchool Fried Rice, RM15.90.
As for mains, we had a Roasted Pork Curry Laksa and OldSchool Fried Rice. We are totally in love with the thick and flavourful Curry Laksa soup. It was satisfying both visually and and 'tastebudly'. LOL. Only complain? The main character, the Roast Pork turns out to be very soggy and cold. The fried rice was very delicious with enough 'wok hei' and great mixture of ingredients like Char Siew, prawns, eggs, chopped long beans plus an awesome Char Siew and long beans omelet on top. Oh-so-yummy! Portions for the dishes are big too so we were super full after everything! Phew~!
Us adding more weight to ourselves and the baby boy in me! :p
With a 10% service charge, the bill came up to RM43.65, which I consider still reasonable, judging from the portion and quality. We are definitely going back for more! :)

Mummy Shirlexia Wanna be Stylish too!

When I found out I'm pregnant, I was pretty determined that being preggers won't stop me from dressing myself up, stylishly as the usual me did (ahem, damn thick skin). After all, a lot of readings I did tell mummies-to-be to treat themselves better and to look good so you won't feel so bad about yourself as you put on the weight.

I truly believe in that theory. If I'm already going to be fat and swollen, the last thing I want to do is to add a horrible dress to make myself look even worst and feel damn bad about myself, aye?

Unfortunately though, I was struggling to do so the first few months, finding out that maternity clothes in the malls are insanely expensive yet ridiculously ugly! They are seriously so aunty I just cannot take it! So I got my ways into buying better-looking and cheaper maternity wears online and eventually also resort to buying plus size clothes which are really pretty! :)

Of course, there aren't many #ootd lar since I didn't have too many of the nice clothes anyway, but here are some of my maternity fashion to share...
