Breakfast @ Yut Kee

I was going to do this post after my Broga Hill post, but hor, 'someone' cannot wait any longer wor, so here I am lar, crapping about food again. I mean, now my blog is giving people an impression like it's a food blog nowadays! Oh well, I guess that is not too bad lar since I am a food lover mah!
So... It was Sunday and I had to go to The Voice Academy to get my result. But it was Sunday! I hate going out on Sunday by bus... You will get all the Bangladeshi, Indian or whatever foreign workers taking every single seat in the bus! They aren't gentlemen at all, even if you are bloody old or you are bloody pregnant, they will never give away their seat! Stupid! And and... as you stand in front of them, they will bloody stare at your breasts like wow, they've never seen a woman's breasts before!!! Bloody perverts!!!
So anywayz, that was why I asked Karen to pick me up, and together with 'Ah Joe', we went to Yut Kee for breakfast.I was very excited about Yut Kee, since Karen has been telling me how famous it is (her uncle owns it). And I love having heavy and nice breakfast!!! :)Yut Kee at a glance...
So Yut Kee is a very old kopitiam situated at Dang Wangi, and its opposite Oriental Daily HQ. Actually, it is a very famous kopitiam and I'm actually very out-dated to have only gone there now.
Let's go straight to the food!
For starters, Karen ordered her favourite half-boiled eggs, plus two sets of Roti Bakar. The Roti Bakar there is different, where they give you the bread without anything in it, you will have to spread the butter and Kaya yourself. Now the main thing here is their homemade Kaya. Really not bad, although its still umcomparable to my Ah Ma's green pandan Kaya. :)Boiled egg... I didn't try that.
The Roti Bakar and the yummy kaya!
I also ordered the Lam Mee. I don't know what kind of Lam Mee it is, but it is a bit different compared to the ones we are used to. The soup isn't those thick one, and there isn't egg in the soup. In stead, there are small pieces of fried eggs in it. BUT the one thing that surprises me is that it doesn't have chicken or pork, only seafood--fish, prawns and crabmeat (yes, and I mean fresh crab meat, not crab stick)! I actually like it a lot!!!The very special Lam Mee!!! Looooooveeeee it!
Then I just can't control myself from ordering a bowl of fish porridge. The porridge actually disappoints me a bit. It was a bit tasteless. Maybe that is why there are soya sauce and pepper for us on the table???The fish porridge. They also have pork, chicken and beef porridge!
We always say, save the best for last, right???
So I'm saving it to the very last one...
Be prepared...

...
It's Yut Kee's very famous speciality--Roti Babi!!!
I know, I know that sounds so illegal. Some Muslim friends might get offended ler! But anywayz, Yut Kee isn't Halal, so does Shirlexia, and so does her blog! Nah, nah, nah... Pork is too tasty for me to make myself Halal!!! :p
Anywayz, Roti Babi is like two pieces of Roti with mince pork, pork pieces, Chinese sausages, maybe bacon?, and crab meat (again!) in it! And the Roti is covered with egg before being fried! See, only by reading these description, you can already feel how yummy it is, right?
Here you are...
Roti Babi, the best dish we had that morning!
So that was our yummy breakfast, which together with the drinks, comes to a total of RM30. Not too bad a price lar.
Well, Yut Kee's chicken chop is also very famous, I would really really really like to go back to try that! And Karen is a fan of the swiss rolls, I would like to try that too! OMG, I just sooooo sooo sooo want to go there again to have another good breakfast!!! Huh? Karen? When is it coming huh?

P/S: Hey Cincai Group people! Can please send me photos??? I need to update my blog! :)

YES!!! SEAN PENN WON!!!

YES! YES! YES!
When it was announced that Sean Penn won the Best Actor award at the Oscar 2009, I literally punched my hands into the air and shouted "YES!"... IN THE OFFICE!!!
(Oh well, I actually wish I could jump and run all over!!!)
Ok lar, I'm also a fan of Slumdog Millionaire and I'm very happy that they won a total of 8 awards (yea, a FREAKING 8 awards!!!), but that was like no surprise!
But Sean Penn was only the second favourite to win the Oscar, behind this guy called Mickey Rourke, who had beaten him at the Golden Globe earlier. That was why I had been so bloody kan cheong since this morning, before the event actually started!!!
And oh I love how Sean Penn delivered his acceptance speech! Humourous, and at the same time never forgot to be serious and came up with his praises for Barrack Obama too! Ha...
Here's some part of his speech I picked up here and there...

You commie, homo-loving, sons of guns,I did not expect this and...I know how hard I make it to appreciate me. I think it is a good time for those who voted for the ban against gay marriage to sit and reflect and anticipate their great shame and the shame in their grandchildren's eyes if they continue that way. We've got to have equal rights for everyone.

You see, the reason for me to love such actor like Sean Penn, is obviously not because he looks cute. Since
I Am Sam, which Jodi showed me years ago in Perth, I've fallen in love with this cool actor. I found him even 'cooler' later because of his personal character. He speaks his mind, doesn't care much about the paparazzi, doesn't do much interview, and he is also a political activist, agaisnt George W. Bush of course, and that is why I love him! And now he is also there to fight for gay rights, even though he is straight! See how sweet and cool Sean Penn is? I just found this particular article written about him really good.Sean Penn and his wife at the red carpet... They actually noticed he forgot to thank his wife!
That's Sean Penn in one of the scenes in Milk.
I also congratulate Milk for winning the Best Original Screenplay award. You know what? I, myself cannot believe it, that I was in tears when the writer Dustin Lance Black delivered his moving speech...
Oh my God. This was, um. This was not an easy film to make. First off, I have to thank Cleve Jones and Anne Kronenberg and all the real-life people who shared their stories with me. And, um, Gus Van Sant, Sean Penn, Emile Hirsch, Josh Brolin, James Franco, and our entire cast, my producers, Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen, everyone at Groundswell and Focus, for taking on the challenge of telling this life-saving story. When I was 13 years old, my beautiful mother and my father moved me from a conservative Mormon home in San Antonio, Texas to California and I heard the story of Harvey Milk. And it gave me hope. It gave me the hope to live my life, it gave me the hope to one day live my life openly as who I am and that maybe even I could fall in love and one day get married.
(He chokes up, audience begins to applaud.)

I want to thank my mom who has always loved me for who I am, even when there was pressure not to. But most of all, if Harvey had not been taken from us 30 years ago, I think he’d want me to say to all of the gay and lesbian kids out there tonight who have been told that they are less than by their churches or by the government or by their families that you are beautiful, wonderful creatures of value and that no matter what anyone tells you, God does love you and that very soon, I promise you, you will have equal rights, federally, across this great nation of ours. (Wild applause from the audience.) Thank you, thank you, and thank you God for giving us Harvey Milk.

Watch the touching video here.

Or here...

Dustin's acceptance speech is surely going to be remembered for a long long time.

Some actors and actresses, including Sean Penn himself was in tears. And while google searching for the speech, I found everybody is now talking about that speech!!! Looks like it is just going to be one of Oscar's classic!
There might be something wrong with me, Shirlexia, for crying for a gay guy's gay speech. Nah, I'm not gay, maybe just not yet. But I feel really really sad listening to what Dustin said. Let the gays have their rights! And to gay parents, there is just nothing wrong with your kids being gay! You guys should support them!!!
Well, anywayz, congratulations to Slumdog Millionaire!!!
I'm soooooo glad no surpriese happen there! :)
Big winner there, Slumdog Millionaire!!!
OMG, I'm so damn excited I don't think I can sleep tonight!!!

Good Movies...

Okay guys, time for some movie review! The first two ones are nominated for the Academy Awards this year, and I'm so happy to have seen them! :)

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Watched this last night and I'm absolutely loving it! (Well, except for the fact that there was disturbance by this annoying guy sitting in front of me... ==|||)
I'm pretty sure you already know what is the story about. It's a pretty unique story. The entire movie is like a flashback of the entire story, some with a sense of humour too. My personal favourite would be the part where Benjamin talks about how Daisy was hit by a taxi. If you are going to watch this movie, please pay attention to that particular part! It's just bloody cool! The whole movie is a bit too long (it's almost freaking 3 hours!), but it's not boring at all! Every second of the movie is interesting!
Well, I don't like Brad Pitt, ever since you-know-what... But to be honest, he was not too bad playing the role of Benjamin. Although... Not really fantastic. I actually think Sean Penn did better in Milk, which I'm going to write about next. But I really love Taraji P. Henson, who plays Benjamin's mother in the movie!
Everyone should watch this movie! :)
P/S: Okay, this middle-age uncle came and sat in front of me in the cinema. And during the entire movie, he talked to himself while everybody was looking at him like weird... For example, when one of the old guys in the movie told Benjamin about how he was strike by lightning seven times, he actually counted and said :"Five now, two more to go, hahahahaha..." ==||| And when Benjamin and Elizabeth went into the hotel room with a number 25, he said :"Yee Sap Ng, Hahahahahaha..." Duh??? What is so funny about 25? And that uncle langhed throughout almost the whole movie, even when there isn't anything so funny about it. His laughs was like "hahahahaha" or "hehehehehe"... Sounds like 变态! Everybody was starring at him in the cinema! Weird uncle...

Milk
I LOVE SEAN PENN!!!
He can act as a retarted father, etc... Now he acts as a gay politician! What else can he not act as and be good at it??? What else??? I just love him!!!
Okay, okay, be calm...
Milk is a based on a true story of a gay guy, Harvey Milk who was elected as a member of San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977. But he was later assassinated. Well, this is the kind of movie that once you watch, you know it's going to be nominated for some major awards. Although it's a bit boring, but I always love this kind of true story with some touching scenes. There are so many gay movies these days, but to find one touching one is not easy. This is definitely one of them. You know lar, a gay guy fights his way to get the trust from everybody in the 70s is really not easy. Along the way, Harvey actually sacrificed a lot...
Sean Penn is perfect in the movie! I cannot really believe my eyes! He can be so 'gay'! I hope he wins the Oscar again!!! Although... He is not really the favourite! But who knows??? Go Sean Penn!!! And I just found out Matt Damon was initially the actor chosen to play the role of Dan White!!! What a waste!!! Otherwise he would have gotten another Oscar nomination!!!

Now, plus Slumdog Millionaire, I've watched three of the five Oscar nominated Best Film award movies. I think it would be a little hard for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Milk might have a chance if the judges aren't those who refused to give the Best Film award to Brokeback Mountain. But personally, I think Slumdog Millionaire is the best!

He is Vince,

Love Story!!!

Bunyi Gitar!

然后,Vince的版本的You Raise Me Up!

GO VINCE! YOU HAVE MY SUPPORT!!!

What Valentine's Day means to me?

NOTHING... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!
Okay, this may sounds a bit sour, but I'm telling the truth. Not that I haven't have any relationship and bf in my life. It just happened I've never spent any Valentine's Day with a bf. Hmmmmm... I really do hope to have a bf for Valentine's Day, although I don't understand why is it such a special day???
Karen and I went out today to have our very own Valentine's Day celebration and we discussed about Valentine's Day and the couples we saw. To sum it up, Valentine's Day is probably a day that a guy is being 'wat' (in Cantonese) to buy present, pay for meal (or meals), pay for movies, etc. While girls with roses on their hands would feel prouder on this special day. So that was why Karen and I were so pissed off when the Forever 21 girl gave roses out to everyone who stepped into the shop except for us!!! What the hell??? What's wrong with us? This is a bloody hell discrimination!!! Aaaaaarrrgggg...
Anywayz, what I'm trying to say is, like Mother's Day or Father's Day, you can treat everyday as Valentine's Day. Look, I'm sure almost everyday you go movie or go for a meal with your other half. I'm sure once in a while you get flowers, and I'm so bloody sure you guys wear the couples T-shirts whenever you feel like!!! So what is so special about Valentine's Day??? You tell me.
Well, I know what Valentine's Day this year means to me.
It was about FOOD and SHOPPING!!!
Karen and I had a short day out today. She's been freaking busy with her work sometimes it's too much that she got so emo and I didn't even dare to talk to her when she is emo (gosh, that was such a long sentence). So today we finally got like a few hours to catch-up. I hope she switch job lar, like me, I'm so much more happier now! :) We first had lunch at Sushi Zanmai, food were still as yummy as ever, and it worths the money! And then we went to do some money spending session... Bought some stuff (most of them from Jusco as I was using the member day voucher), and ate very expensive ice-cream to wrap up our very own Valentine's Day! :)Shirlexia has got swollen eyes so she has to post picture of her best friend in stead of herself. :p
See! I got Valentine's day present also!!! (Thanks Karen)
People have couples t-shirt, so what? We bought couple make-up bag! And look, they are in polka dots!!!
*Sorry, I was having a swollen eye, so wasn't in a mood to take too many pictures.
It is Valentine's Day! Although I didn't have any kind of candle light dinner date or anything near to that, I decided I should make a Valentine's Day dinner for myself, my sister and her friends. As you can see, I have still more than half a packet of macaroni from the previous thing I made. So I made macaroni again today, not Hong Kong style, but Western style. I named it Cold Macaroni and Tuna Salad. This is such an easy dish to make, the only thing you need to cook is the macaroni!
The ingredients are: Macaroni, tuna in olive oil, tamoto, capsicum, oak salad leafs and black pepper and salt for the taste.Food also need to pose for picture!
You might notice I put tomatoes into almost everything. That's because I'm a tomato lover, tomato is like a must in my fridge!!! Tomatoes is a healty food (although I don't know what exactly are in it and I'm so lazy to go search for it) and they are good for your eyes! See, that is why I don't wear glasses! :p
Next step, is to of course boil the macaroni for about 10 minutes in salt water. Cut the tomato and capsicum, wash the oak leaf and make the tuna chunks into smaller pieces.
Everything in the process...
And then you will have to make everything cold! This dish tastes good only when it's cold enough! I put cold water (tap water) over the boiled macaroni and stored them in the fridge for about 30 minutes. I did the same (store into fridge) to the other ingredients after cutting and washing them. Of course, you can mixed tham all together first before storing them into the fridge. I chose not to to avoid having too much water in the bottom of the salad in the end of the day.
Make sure the macaroni is cold enough!!!
So, no need me to tell you lar, the next step is to mix everything together, add in loads of black pepper to taste.Ohyea, I later added in the Taiwanese sausages too!
To serve the dish, I put the oak leafs (god only knows what is that, I just bought something that looks like vege for salad) on the plate, and put the salad over them, well, just to make it prettier...Another very healthy and easy to make meal! :)
I know it looks a bit like the couscous I made earlier, well then no choice, that's about the same stuff you can put in to make salad anywayz. Ducum and co. enjoying my salad... My god, look at Ducum's face!!! Kakakaka...
Of course, people who ate it (I'm not saying myself, okay) said it is yummy!!! :)

Finally, a real blog post!

Okay, this is going to be a post to sum up everything I did last weekend, after being busy for so many days...
First up...

My Pre-Chap Goh Meh
Yeah, I've promised to go to Bandar Utama to meet up with 3e and 4e since I had something for Eu Jin before he flew off to Melbourne. Oh, he's gone now by the way.
They were all playing Mah Jong at 4e's, and OMG including an ang mo!!! And they were so addicted to it that they were all stuck on the chair for almost the entire day I was there!!! Lucky for me Jan Yi has her lappy there and I was able to go on-line for a while, and I also brought my book to read. Otherwise it was so freaking boring that I kept scolding myself! Why? Why did I gave up a chance to see my long-time idol for a day of watching people playing Mah Jong??? Then had to go home by bus myself at 10 something at night! WTF???A day of Mah Jong and Domino's at 4e's house.
Okay lar, I was axaggerating... They are my relatives, I cannot be so mean to them, at least Eu Jin like my present lar! :) Some simple recipe books for Eu Jin so that he can cook for himself in Melbourne!
All the best, my dear cousin bro! Take care!!! Don't forget to come back oh! :)

My Chap Goh Meh Dinner
It so happened that Chap Goh Meh was also Thaipussum (sorry if I get the spelling wrong, no offence okay?), so I had a day off. And so... I made dinner!!!
See, Duo Go (my auntie lar, my dad's sister) gave me some of her CNY steamboat leftover food. I always love them, and I would put them in whenever I cook instant noodles or even just make soup with them. This time, I decided to make a Hong Kong/Shirlexia's style macaroni in soup. This is something you can only find in Hong Kong I think, or maybe some Hong Kong Cha Can Teng. I haven't really try any of them, except for for the instant packet one that I've tried in Perth. But I'm doing it my style because I didn't follow any method, I just simply put in whatever I have.
So here are the ingredients...
The homemade fried wanton and Taiwanese sausages (one of my favourites) that my auntie gave!
Others: Macaroni, frozen corn, butter cabbage (or Chinese cabbage), tomatoes and half of the ikan bilis cube.
So first of all, boil the macaroni, they need longer time to be cooked, if compared to other pasta kinda noodles. Before they are really cooked, like after about 8 minutes, add in the vegetables, tomatoes and also half of the ikan bilis cube to taste. Note: the cabbage also gave a very sweet taste to the soup, so don't need to worry about the taste so much.
This is when you can start putting other stuff into the pot!
Half way through... Ooooohhh... Can't wait!
After a while, add in the rest of the stuff, then just boil, boil, boil until everything is cooked...
And the result...
Yet another creative way to use whatever leftover food you have! :)
And I can assure you it is absolutely YUMMY!!!

I was late because of Slumdog Millionaire!!!

Yea, I got the DVD last night, and was like oooohhhh yeah so damn excited, and watched it straight away at around 12 something midnight (plus an electricity disturbance at around 2 something in the morning) and ended up sleeping at 3am in the morning! And shit, when I got up this morning it was freaking 9AM!!!
So here's my review of the Golden Globe's Best Film award winner' movie and two other CNY movies...

Slumdog Millionaire
I've never watched any of Danny Boyle's work before this although he sounds really famous. But honestly speaking I really admire him for having the guts to challenge such a movie like Slumdog Millionaire! Anywayz, you might or might not know there is this whole lot of critics, protests and even lawsuits against this movie, especially the reaction from India itself is scary. But well, we all love controversy, right?
But we forget about all those stuffs, especially regarding religion and races. I'm talking about this movie as a Chinese who doesn't know much about all those and only have an Indian best friend in her life ok!
The story is about Jamal, an orphan/call center assistant who went on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and went on till the final question before getting arrested by the police, suspecting he was cheating on the show. He of course, did not cheat, it's just that people's perception is, how come some random uneducated chaiwalla(the person who serve tea) can answer those question? Sure got some problem one! That is already a point that I love! I never really like science-fiction or whatever vampire or comics movies because they are all really not real stuff or story. I love things with a 'reality' bit in it! So then Jamal had to explain how he knows the answer to all the questions by taking you all back to his kid time, one by one he sorted out the answers... If you are a loyal reader of mine, you should also know I love smart movies. Like this one, the entire movie is actually just something that happens in like two days time, and how they make Jamal's story so touching, yet has some clues to the answers really amazed me!
The delivery of the story, the transition from the game show, reality and the flashback was also really well done! I also love the fact that the movie shows the other side of India, the poor yet colourful side of the country. Those images might be a bit disturbing, but I believe those are what that made this movie so interesting! I also love the homour of the Taj Mahal part, that was like so freaking funny man!
Oh,not to forget, the music by A.R Rahman was pretty cool too!
The only thing I don't prefer is the cheesy part lar. "This is our destiny!". OMG!!! What kinda line is that??? But think about it, this is an Indian story lar, cheesy lines are A MUST!
And the movie makes me think of Revathi so much, and also Vin Chin, my Koko from India. I just realised, Indians actually shake their head when they want to say 'yes'! Funny, isn't it? Revathi is so going to kill me if she see this! Hahahahaha... :p
Actors wise, not very special lar. I'm just wondering, why does Jamal's brother Salim looks more like American Black than an Indian? He looks like Michael Jackson about 20 years ago! And Latika definitely look older than Jamal, Jamal is such a kid! And I like Irrfan Khan!!!
Anywayz, overall, I LOVE IT! You should watch the movie if you have a chance, I'm so fucking serious!!!
Best of all, if you are boycotting American products like my boss (who would quit eating McD and Subway but can never ever stop using Windows), this is a British movie! Yay~! :p
I soooooooo hope the movie will win the Oscar next month (I'm just guessing it's next month), although I've yet to watch other nominated movies. GO SLUMDOG MLLIONAIRE! GO!!!
I've got Milk with me and I can't wait any longer to see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Arrrrrhhhh... I HATE BRAD PITT)!
