Dinner in Style @ Jibby & Co, Empire Shopping Gallery

Located as an extension area outside Empire, it is not easy to not notice the very unique looking restaurant any time when you go past the shopping mall. In fact I was already pretty excited before they opened!
That feeling kinda fades away as time past especially after two experiences: 1) Deardo and I went there as early as 6pm one weekday and was informed they have only those side tables with high chairs available and 2) Lea went there with her family for breakfast on a Sunday morning and had only bad comments on their services, food quality and the fact that all items are overpriced.
If not for SIL who suggested we go there for early dinner the other day, I might not even visit the place until maybe when the crowd slowly go away...
Tell me you are not impress, tell me!
The restaurant's design itself looks extremely impressive both from the outside and inside. Glass panels, high ceiling, tables and chairs that come in different sizes and designs, cool furniture and decor made the restaurant pretty breath-taking and I truly appreciate the effort and money put onto these details.
Glancing through the menu, you'll find the restaurant, which is under the same management as Serai, offers dishes that are quite distinctively theirs - usual dishes with a fusion twist. Because of the pricing, it was pretty hard to make a decision, especially when we were so scared that the dishes (which are expensive) we ordered will turn out to be bad! So here are what we ordered:
Chicken Popcorn, RM22.
The Chicken Popcorn we ordered to share was pretty awesome! Usual chicken popcorn always have a hard texture but these tender chicken pieces that are coated with salted eggs (scream~~~) were simply addictive! Of course it is quite crazy to pay 22 bucks just for an appertiser! :S
Shredded Duck Pasta, RM29.
Thai Chicken Maryland, RM28.
Soft Shell Crab Burger, RM32.
Roasted Aubergine Salad, RM25.
SIL's Shredded Duck Pasta is more like an Aglio Olio with duck, baby spinach and their house made semi-sundried tomatoes and it was above average, I must say. BIL had the Thai Chicken Maryland in which the Thai Honey Sauced Chicken was just okay but the salted egg fried rice was super nice with a heavy salted egg fragrant! And what a creative recipe too!
Deardo gave their star item - Soft Shell Crab Burger a go and was impressed. The soft shell crab was huge, crispy and fresh while the buns was soft and nicely grilled. The sweet potatoes fries were also very addictive Lil' Jolie would approved! LOL! I had the Roasted Aubergine Salad which was definitely one of the best and complex salad I've ever had in my life! :)
Whose Cuter? Me or Jolie???
With BIL's Lychee Mint (RM13), plus 10% service charges, the bill came up to RM163.90, which is obviously on a higher range.
Overall, I'm surprised at how much I actually enjoyed the dinner after all the bad reviews. I mean, maybe breakfast here are bad and not other dishes? Food are a class above but unfortunately the price is also a class above, making it hard to say it's an everyday casual dining restaurant. In fact, from other blog reviews I noticed their prices have already increased after opening for merely 2 or 3 months time! Well their business is still doing pretty well so I guess Malaysians are willing to pay a lot for their food hey?
