Of Fancy Hotel and Die then Repeat

The Grand Budapest Hotel
Director: Wes Anderson
Cast: Ralph Fiennes, Tony Revolori, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe
Synopsis: The movie follows ex-lobby boy at the famed Grant Budapest Hotel Zero Moustafa and his journey with the former concierge Monsieur Gustave who have trained him and have eventually died protecting him
The Thumb-Up(s): While the story may sound a tad too normal and sad, the movie really doesn't look or sound like that at all. The entire tone of the movie is presented in a way that is so oddly quirky and comedic that it is just plain entertaining to watch. That, paired with insanely gorgeous and colourful set designed to showcase the beauty of the hotel... Fuh... Truly breath-taking man!
I'm also absolutely a fan of the lovely cast whom most of them you have not seen them dress-up or act like that in any movies before this! One of the notable breakthrough performances must be by Saoirse Ronan who played Agatha. And of course, watching this movie requires full attention because in a careless blink you might miss a lot of guest stars!
The Thumb-Down(s): NONE
The Verdict: Need me say more? Watch it!!!
4.5/5

Edge of Tomorrow
Director: Dough Liman
Cast: Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Brendan Gleeson
Synopsis: Based on a Japanese novel All You Need is Kill, the movie is set in a time where human are at war with aliens. Major William Cage was sent to war and finds himself going back to the day he was brought to the war base every time he dies at war...
The Thumb-Up(s): Hollywood movies nowadays are mostly all about fighting aliens and I'm so sick of that. Thankfully the time-looping storyline gave the movie a very fresh twist, especially when it is injected with a sense of humour.
It is also such a different movie in the sense that you'll see Tom Cruise not being his usual confident and cool character. So kudos to him for that! Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton and Gleeson also gave some memorable performances.
The Thumb-Down(s): While the time-looping is a cool idea, watching everything repeat, repeat and repeat can be very tedious and boring too. I'm also not completely convinced with the editing especially towards the end where all you see are some blurry visuals.
The Verdict: I went into the cinema after hearing some very bad reviews from friends but it turned out to be much better than what I've expected! With almost everything that comes out from Hollywood now talks about end of the world and aliens invading the world, this movie focuses on a different angle and is surprisingly entertaining.
3/5
